What’s up ya’ll? This is the First Lady of Fitness, Fashion, and Fun – Jackie O. reminding each and every one of you who is of voting age to GET OUT AND VOTE! I know many of you may be sick and tired of all the political ads and even sicker and more tired about the current political environment. . . THAT HOWEVER DOES NOT MEAN THAT YOU SIT AROUND WITH YOUR HEAD IN A HOLE WHILE POLITICS AS USUAL HAPPENS. It means that you MUST become the change you want to see in the world and that starts with exercising your right to vote. Your vote counts. . .it REALLY does, so NEVER underestimate the importance of the effort, blood, sweat, tears and lives that were given so that YOU could vote, because unless you are a WEALTHY WHITE PROTESTANT MALE LANDOWNER – your right to vote was anything but originally guaranteed and YOU SHOULD NEVER FORGET THAT! YOUR RIGHT is a result of many hard fought battles both intellectually and physically. As an individual who strives to fix up his/her body you have a moral responsibility to YOUR body to make that it exist within a healthy political [...]

What’s up ya’ll? This is Jackie O., checkin back in with you all! I hope hope each and every one of you have been both fit and fashionable all the while having lots of fun. I know that I have. I’m a little sore and tired, but I can say with pride that I successfully completed the Oil Creek 50k Ultra Marathon in Titusville, Pa. It was a glorious experience, but not without its challenges. As many of you may know, I have been nursing an injured left inner thigh since I completed the Erie Marathon in September, so I was a little nervous about this run. I was also super excited about running on new terrain and being one step closer to becoming a full fledged member of Marathon Maniacs. The official name of the event is the second annual Oil Creek 100 Trail Run and runners from as far away as California came to the small town of Titusville to do what they love to do. I arrived in Titusville on the evening before the race and went to Titusville Middle School (TMS) to pick up my race packet. For those of you who have never completed a [...]

surviving the holidays

(1) Enjoy time with your family but also savor some alone time. You need the yin and the yang to have a balanced holiday season and life. (2) Celebrate you accomplishments this year both big and small. Use the holidays to remind yourself of all the positive things that you have done, people you have met, and perhaps places you have visited. (3) Make sure you get enough sleep. Don’t get so overwhelmed with the holidays that you neglect some much needed sleep. . .It will only bring out your inner Scrooge and makes the holidays painful for yourself and those around you. (4) Trick your taste buds. Opt for holiday snacks that are both delicious and healthy. (5) Smile. It is the cheapest and oldest beauty trick, but it remains timeless. (6) Take time to give back. There is a quote which states that “Volunteerism is the voice of the people put into action. These actions shape and mold the present into a future of which we can all be proud. ” Nothing is better for the mind and the soul than helping other, so volunteer an hour or two helping those in need in your community. (7) Take [...]
